Welcome to Medieval Britain (or rather England, because Britain wasn’t formed until much later on!), a time when religion was central to society, and people believed illnesses were sent by God to punish them for their sins. Ancient ideas were still the norm, living conditions were tough, and diseases that we can now easily treat were killers.
