Title page of Louis Pasteur’s ‘Maladie Des Vers A Soie’ (Studies on Silkworm Disease). Since 1853, two diseases were infecting Silkworms in France. This negatively efffected farmers who relied on the silk for income. In 1865 Pasteur travelled to Alès, in Southern France, to study the disease and found evidence of a link between germs and disease. Pasteur published his findings in ‘Maladie Des Vers A Soie’, where he successfully demonstrated germs caused disease in Silkworms.
