Along with his book entitled On the Motion of the Heart’ he challenged the work of Galen. Through close observation and working on cold blooded amphibians he could see that blood was pumped around the body by the heart in one direction controlled by valves. He proved Galen’s argument that the liver made blood to be incorrect and proved instead that the heart was at the centre of the body.
